The project “Safe Relationships for Young People: Knowledge, Support and Participation to Reduce Violence” is primarily implemented by the Child and Adolescent Resource Centre Support Fund, with the professional contribution of Child and Adolescent Resource Centre (CARC) specialists.
The main aim of the project is to increase young people’s awareness and understanding of gender-based violence (GBV) and the support mechanisms available to them, while strengthening their ability to recognize unhealthy relationships, set personal boundaries, and respond appropriately in crisis situations.
The project’s target groups are young people aged 14–20 from different regions of Latvia, including socially vulnerable young people. Teachers, youth workers, and parents are also indirectly targeted by the project. The project is implemented in cooperation with the partner organizations “Piedzīvojumu Garāža” and Kuldīga active youth association “Sprādziens”, both of which work actively with young people and help ensure regional coverage.
The project includes:
- developing youth-friendly, co-created materials on recognizing GBV and accessing available support;
- organizing interactive lectures for young people in schools and youth centres;
- implementing an awareness-raising campaign that includes social media activities, press publications, and an online event.
An important additional benefit of the project is strengthening the capacity of the partner organizations. Neither of the two participating youth NGOs has previously received specific training in the field of GBV. Through the project, they will gain knowledge and practical tools that will enable them to integrate this topic into their everyday work with young people. This will help ensure that the project’s impact continues beyond the end of the funding period.
In the longer term, the project will contribute to creating a safer environment for young people, reducing discrimination, and strengthening society’s capacity to recognize and respond to gender-based violence.
