JA PRISM is a European joint action aimed at strengthening mental health promotion and prevention, with a particular focus on vulnerable population groups. The project brings together 56 partners from 18 EU Member States and one associated non-EU country, focusing on suicide prevention, reducing loneliness, and promoting the emotional well-being of children and young people.
Implementation in Latvia
In Latvia, JA PRISM involves the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Centre of the Children’s Clinical University Hospital, the National Mental Health Centre, and the Child and Adolescent Resource Centre (CARC).
A key area of Latvia’s involvement is the adaptation and implementation of Act, Belong, Commit (ABC), a Danish evidence-based mental health promotion initiative for children and young people. CARC specialists, together with specialists from the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Centre, are directly involved in adapting and piloting the ABC approach in Latvia.
The ABC approach encourages children and young people to protect and strengthen their mental health through three simple principles: do something active, do something with others, and do something meaningful. As part of the project, CARC specialists contribute their practical experience in working with children and young people, participate in knowledge exchange and capacity-building activities, and support the adaptation of the approach to the Latvian context.
In addition, Latvia is involved in the transfer and piloting of other European good practices, including Circle of Friends, a Finnish approach aimed at reducing social loneliness among older people, and BIZI, a Spanish suicide prevention programme.
